Did you know Thomas Astruc, created Miraculous Ladybug because he realized no super hero was based off of a ladybug? He also wanted to represent a female super hero with a male side kick because of the trope assigned to women. We live in a male dominated world where in movies, television shows and advertisement there is little representation of females and thus not many women for girls to look up to. Because of this Astruc wanted to see a portrayal of a strong female character little girls could relate and look up to. He took it upon himself to create a female character to represent a tough, independent woman hero, and for once not a sidekick. Astruc took major inspiration from the spiderman series in fact, within his Ladybug comics he had a ladybug bite Marinette for her to obtain her super powers.

Ladybug’s are known as defender bugs, they take care of the bad bugs in a garden and ward off predators from the red of their shells. I feel this little beetle represents our main protagonist, Marinette, perfectly. In and out of costume Marinette defends the under dog and protects the people around her. Some of the way’s she does this is by protecting her classmates from Chloe’s rampage and suiting up as the Miraculous Ladybug to protect the city of Paris from the akumas Hawkmoth sends out. I believe the ladybug represents the Miraculous Ladybug Super Hero perfectly, beautiful but has a bite.
